Truro Birth Collective
I am a member of the The Truro Birth Collective, a group of fantastic doulas in and around Truro, Nova Scotia. Members of the collective include birth professionals in and near Truro who seek to enhance birth experiences and options for the childbearing year for women and families in the Truro area. In addition to the service we offer as individual businesses, we have come together to offer workshops to help prepare couples for birth and the immediate postpartum period. The series are often held at the Enchanted Forest Community Room. You can find more information regarding upcoming workshops at: www.trurobirth.ca or find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TruroBirth
Family Resource Centres
I am a strong supporter of local family resource centres and have worked closely with several, including the East Hants Family Resource Centre (Elmsdale), the Musquodoboit Valley Family Resource Centre (Middle Musquodoboit) and Maggies Place (Truro). I partner with these groups to provide breastfeeding support groups and childbirth and breastfeeding education classes. I am also connected to the work of the Chebucto Family Resource Centre (Spryfield), in particular, their Volunteer Doula program.
Colchester East Hants Breastfeeding Coalition
I am part of the Central Nova Scotia Breastfeeding Coalition (formerly known as the Truro & Area Breastfeeding Network). It is a group of individuals who support, promote, and protect breastfeeding in our communities. Our goal is to re-build a culture where breastfeeding is normal and parents choosing to breastfeed have the necessary supports readily available to them. We also work with local businesses, organizations and governments to create public spaces supportive of breastfeeding. http://www.breastfeedingincentralns.ca/about-us/
Nova Scotia Doula Association
I sit on the board of the Nova Scotia Doula Association, as the Director of Membership. It is a not-for-profit organization that supports the growth and development of the doula profession in Nova Scotia. We focus on the provision of educational opportunities for doulas, and promote public awareness of the positive impact that doulas can have on maternity care and the families we serve. http://www.novascotiadoulas.org
