Postpartum Doula

What does a Postpartum Doula do?
Why might you consider postpartum doula support?
Those first hours, days or weeks of parenthood can be amazing. They also have capacity for moments of feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and uncertain… all while on one of the most intense learning curves of your life! This is when you call in the troops! Not because you won’t survive without… but because you want to set the bar a little higher for your first few weeks with baby (or babies) and your family!
What would that support look like?
As your postpartum doula, my goal is to nurture you and your family into your new roles together. What this means to you and your family is very individual… perhaps it’s breastfeeding support, learning new techniques to sooth your baby, help your other children adapt, another pair of hands to help out with the house or help to maximize your sleep by having nighttime support. Very quickly, with this support, your self-confidence, mobility and capacity for sleep grows and your need for professional support will diminish. I’m there just when you need the extra support the most.

- I can come to your home and support you to have your immediate needs met- whatever they might be. Breastfeeding support? A nap while you know baby is cared for? Time to take a bath? Help cleaning your home or doing laundry? Help with making meals or getting groceries? A good listener? Only you know what would make any given day better. Let me know how I can help.
Overnight support- typically 8-9hrs at a time (9/10pm to 6am)
- I stay through the night and help you to get more rest/ sleep. This might mean tending to your baby’s/ babies needs through the night, and waking you only briefly if baby needs to nurse or bottle feeding them. This means that during all the other moments of baby settling again, being changed, burped, snuggled and played with, you get some oh-so-glorious extra sleep. As your baby allows, and with your permission, I can take on extra tasks around the house so that you have that much more time to rest and enjoy your baby the next day as well. Getting a better nights sleep while your dishes are done and laundry is folded? You know you want it.
